Back in the early 1800’s, a man named Joseph Libbey Folsom purchased a very large ranch from the heirs of a San Francisco merchant and set about building a town he named Granite City.  Throughout his life, Joseph lobbied government officials vigorously to get them to lay a railway track between Granite City and Sacramento.  Before he died in 1855, he was successful, and not long after his death, Granite City was renamed Folsom in honor of its founder and benefactor.

Today, Folsom is a suburban city of just over 72,000 residents, and part of the Greater Sacramento Area. Folsom Lake is one of the most popular waterways in the Sacramento Valley; it was created in 1956 when Folsom Dam was built to protect the area’s water rights, and to provide flood control to the Valley.
