Many towns and cities in the Sacramento Valley didn’t have post offices until well into the 20th century, whereas Rocklin’s was established in 1868.  Even well before that time, however, as far back as the late 1700’s, European-Americans were farming the fertile soils of the valley and fishing the region’s waterways.

Local legend has it that the town was originally named after a Finnish immigrant—originally from Russia—whose surname was Rocklin.  While this hasn’t been positively verified, it is true that an emigrant named Rocklin did own a general store in the town during and after the Gold Rush.  Wherever the name came from, Rocklin was officially incorporated in 1893.
