Sacramento Man Receives Maximum Sentence For Drunk-Driving Deaths

The 24 year-old sat in the courtroom sobbing, attempting to put into words the immense sorrow he carried over the terrible damage he had inflicted on three families earlier this year. He apologized for his actions, and expressed incredible sadness. “I still cannot imagine the impact on your lives – the impact in which I am prepared to take full responsibility,” he said in court.

Yet, despite the genuine regret heard in the courtroom, the fact remained that three teenagers were still dead because one man chose to drive drunk. Three lives lost forever and three families destroyed over one incredibly foolish and selfish act.

The incident took place earlier this year along I-80 near Sacramento. As reported by Fox 40, the 24 year-old drunk driver ended up in the wrong lane of the highway, driving without lights at nearly 85 miles per hour. His car slammed directly into another vehicle carrying three teenagers – killing them all. The man’s recorded blood alcohol level after the accident was 0.14 – nearly two times the legal limit.

At his sentencing the judge remarked the man’s actions had irreversible consequences. Per the court’s decision, the man will spend 14 years behind bars for the crime. He will be 38 years old when he is eventually released.

Unfortunately, this is just one of the many DUI accidents that have claimed innocent lives in the state of California over the past year. If you have been harmed by the negligent actions of a drunk driver, you need to speak with the Demas Law Group, P.C.
