In the early summer of 2021, Jessica’s life was shattered in an instant. After a fun-filled day at the beach with her husband and two young children, the family was nearly home when their family SUV was blindsided at a four-way intersection in Citrus Heights, Sacramento County. A reckless driver, speeding at 40-45 mph, blew through a stop sign and slammed into the passenger side of Jessica’s vehicle, flipping it over with such force that the children were left dangling upside down in their car seats.
Jessica’s screams pierced the air as she realized her arm was crushed beneath the roof of the flipped car. Her husband, initially unconscious, awoke to Jessica’s screams and their children’s cries. Neighbors rushed from their homes and, with extraordinary effort, lifted the flipped car just enough to free Jessica’s mangled arm. She was rushed to the ER and underwent nine grueling surgeries.
Doctors made every possible effort to save her limb, including using arteries from her legs to restore blood flow, but the damage to her arm was irreversible. Jessica ultimately underwent a below-the-elbow amputation and extensive skin grafting. She spent nearly a month hospitalized, returning home to a life forever changed by the tragic crash.
Desperate for justice, Jessica and her family turned to Demas Law Group, a firm with many years of experience representing clients against powerful corporations. The legal battle was intense and protracted and resulted in a record-breaking settlement of $11,000,000.
Jessica’s recovery has been long and painful, but her spirit remains unbroken. Inspired by watching others with disabilities on Instagram, Jessica learned how to cook one-handed, care for her children, and even tie her daughter’s hair again. As a testament to her strength and resilience, in 2023, Anna and her husband even gave birth to another child. Thanks to the relentless advocacy of John Demas and the Demas Law Group team, Jessica and her family can now move forward with their second-best life and the justice they so rightfully deserved.
