Bone fractures range from simple to compound. This range includes the following types of fractures:
- Compound fractures occur when a piece of the broken bone protrudes from the skin.
- Avulsion fractures occur near the joints, when a piece of the bone breaks off but remains inside the body.
- Simple breaks occur when the bone fractures, but remains inside the body.
- Green stick fractures, as the name implies, usually occur in developing children, whose bones are soft and not as prone to snapping in two.
- Hairline or stress fractures are very common in the bones of the feet and the ankles, which bear our weight and are therefore subject to more force from activities such as jumping.
