I was eight years old when I started working weekends and summers at flea markets, selling fruits and vegetables alongside my parents.
This wasn’t just a childhood job; it was my education in life and business that continued through law school.
While other kids played Little League, I was working with produce wholesalers and building relationships with our customers, hard-working, salt-of-the-Earth humans. These became my people, and understanding them has been the cornerstone of my success.
My story begins in Greece, where my parents were elementary school dropouts – my dad a sheepherder and farmer, my mom a field worker raising me and my three older sisters. They saw opportunity in America and immigrated to Sacramento when I was three, driven by the hope of a better future for their children.
Despite long hours at the flea markets, I excelled in school. My parents’ sacrifice fueled my determination, making me the first in our family to graduate college and then law school. My father’s words echoed in my ears:
"Doúlepse gia ton eaftó sou! Na min ehis kanenan pano apo to kefali sou!”
(English translation: Be your own boss, so you don’t have to be accountable to anyone but yourself).
This advice propelled me through the most daring move of my life.
In 1992, just nine months after graduating law school, the economic downturn cost me my job at a respected law firm. At 24, jobless and with student loans looming, I took a leap of faith and started my own firm with a friend.
As we handled various cases, I found my true calling in personal injury law. The immigrant in me resonated deeply with helping underdogs navigate their journey to justice.
Through decades of hard work and a consistent record of great financial wins on behalf of our clients, my firm built a reputation in the community, including the insurance companies and corporate lawyers we go up against, as fearless negotiators and successful trial attorneys.
