According to a recent report states that an accident on Highway 44 caused the death of a pregnant woman and may have been alcohol-related.

The unidentified victim died from injuries she sustained in an accident on Highway 44. The report indicates that a Toyota Camry crossed the center line and swerved into oncoming traffic. One of the vehicles in the other lane crashed into a fence and rolled several times.

Witnesses were able to rescue four of the vehicle’s occupants before the car was completely engulfed by flames. Unfortunately, a 20-year-old pregnant woman, one of the four who were rescued, died from severe blunt-force injuries after being rushed to Mercy Medical Center.

DUI in California

According to statistics from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, 1089 people were killed on California roads in 2011 due to drivers who were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The number of deaths caused by alcohol-related crashes is nearly 30 percent of the total number of traffic fatalities.

This high number of senseless deaths is due in large part to the negligence of the driver who chose to operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Throughout the US, driving is illegal if your blood alcohol level is above .08 percent. If you cause an accident or are pulled over while driving under the influence of alcohol, you can face severe fines and penalties, include jail time. Even more importantly, however, a driver who chooses to drink and drive could kill or injure someone else needlessly.

Those who have been injured or lost loved ones to drunk drivers may decide to seek compensation for damages. Damages can include medical costs related to the accident, loss of income and pain and suffering. Each state has its own laws and regulations, so it is important to seek the help of an experienced personal injury lawyer.

Those who have suffered the effects of a drunk-driving related accident have legal rights they can exercise to receive compensation for damages and losses. If you have been injured by a drunk driver, it is important that you exercise your legal rights and talk to a personal injury lawyer. Personal injury lawyers have extensive experience gathering evidence and building a personal injury case, as well as fighting for you at the negotiation table or in the court room.

The lawyer you choose to represent you in your personal injury matter will greatly affect the outcome of your case. What many people don’t realize, though, is that your relationship with your lawyer will also impact your life.
